A real man

A real man, in my opinion, should be brave. Being brave doesn't mean he would get into fights all the time. It's the opposite. A real man is not afraid of failures and believes in himself.
A real man should be generous, not necessarily financially. He should be able to accept different aspects, take advices and forgive others for little mistakes.
A real man should also be gentle. Gentle to his friends, his family and animals.
A real man is honest and sincere.

So, I'm waiting to see one.

The things you do for love

Strangely I've heard so much about this topic lately. One guy is "holding back his feelings" because he said he didn't want to get hurt again, he needed time to trust the girl, he did not believe in long distance relationship. Is that a solid reason? Or is that just another excuse?
According to "He's Just Not That Into You", you can explain it as "he's jut not that into you". If he wants to call you, he will find time to call you; if he needs to find you, he will find a way to find you. No excuse.
And I watched "Slumdog Millionaire" tonight. Look at what Jamal did for love. He survived from killings, gangs, tortures just to find Latika. The 20 million Rupee was not even the point of this story. I knew he did not know the answer, I knew he didn't care and I didn't. The thing is he finally found her.
I know, it's "written". It's fictional. It's drama. So what?
If he wants it badly enough, he'll find a way to be with you.

My personality versus yours

I like personality tests, I like reading daily horoscopes, I like palm readings, face readings, handwritting readings...whatever you can think of. So, when Pearl said she's doing a test on me, I was excited. So, I drew 2 pictures, and she took the paper away.
Today, I got the result back. It says:

Penny, you have tremendous potential and splendid vigor. Yet you have a strong need for otherpeople to like you and for them to admire you. From your drawings, I see that you have a tendencyto be critical of yourself. You have a great deal of unused capacity, which you have not turned toyour advantage. While you may have some personality weaknesses, you are generally able to compensate for themthrough other strengths. You are definitely disciplined and controlled on the outside, but are alsosometimes worrisome and probably even insecure inside. At times you even have serious doubts asto whether you have made the right decision or have done the right thing…You prefer a certain amount of change and variety in life, and become dissatisfied when you feelhemmed in by restrictions and limitations. You do pride yourself as being an independent thinkerand do not accept other’s opinions without satisfactory proof. Penny, you have found it unwise tobe too frank in revealing yourself to others. At times you are extroverted, affable, and sociable, while at other times you are introverted, weary, and reserved. Some of your aspirations tend to bepretty unrealistic too. Yet, you have a need to set challenging goals.

WOW...I thought. That's pretty good. It says a lot about me. Actually, some of the stuff here, I've heard from other tests before. This is exciting, so I sent this to Tristan, and asked what he thought about it. He then sent me a link to a video of Derren Brown reading astrology. He gave everybody the same reading and everybody said it was so true. I said, ok, I get your point. But this test is pretty accurate.
I still sent the video to Pearl, just to see her reaction. 2 minutes later, she emailed me back. Surprisingly, she said this test was exactly the same with the video. The result is the same. WOW!

I think I'll be a little easy on tests now. At the end of the day, who can really tell you who you are? I can't even tell who I am myself. Maybe that's why I do all these tests. Maybe, I just want to hear good things about myself, seek reinsurance, or security.
So, the question now is, are people all similar deep inside? We are all a little too harsh on ourselve, we are all a little insecure, and we are all a little confused sometimes? Ok, I don't feel so bad now.

Something from Cake Mania

Ok, I suck at games. Video games, board games, real games (e.g. sports). But I love simple games. My recent love is Cake Mania 3. It has pretty pictures, somewhat interesting stories and you run your bakery business. If you fail, you do it over. Simple. Perfect for me.
Somehow from my "successful experiences" in the bakery business, I've learned a lot.

Who are your targetted customers/markets?

You have limited resources; e.g. one oven that can bake 3 different shapes of cakes, one spin table that gives you 3 different toppings. So, as your customers are waiting, their satisfiction levels drop. If you are too late, they leave and you have this customized cake that you can't sell to other customer. So you waste that.
So, the first couple of times, I make the cake anyway and try to be on time. However, sometimes you just can't do it. So I failed to pass that level. Then I realized, when i realize that I just can't make the cakes on time, I don't even make them. I skip those already pissed customers, and go directly to the next one. Instead of losing the customers and wasting the cake and possibly losing the next customer, I lose this one, but save the cost and satisfy the next customer. And I pass!
Then I remember the Starbucks case. There are people who enjoy the Italian cafe environment when they go to Starbucks, and there are people who need to get their coffee and leave. How does Starbucks recognize these customers and serve them both? If you have all these customers who want to stay in the store and don't mind to wait, you can slow down your coffee making process, but they cluster your space. If you also want to please the people who are in hurry, you need to speed up, and you can't have a clustered store. Obviously, there is a conflict. Who do you please?
Back to Cake Mania. After I made more money, I bought more machines and I bought a TV to keep customers happy while they are waiting. So I can actually make cakes for almost everybody. So businesses can have multiple focuses, but they require different strategies. Like Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic. I seriously can't imagine what it would look like if all of these products are sold under the same brand name in the same store.
I wonder when they choose their store locations, they do research on local customers. Who are they? What are their purchasing behaviours? What do they want? It is natural for people to please everybody, but you just can't. If you lose your focus, you may piss off everybody. On the other hand, you have a focus, you have a clear image. You can also put more efforts on your targetted customers, so they are happier too.
Maybe the simple game is not so simple after all.
